Obituary of A. L. Holmes

Albert Lawrence "Larry" Holmes, 87, of Raleigh, passed away Monday evening, October 31, 2011 at Rex Healthcare.

Funeral Service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Montlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 - 3 p.m. Thursday.

A native of Guilford County, Larry was born February 20, 1924, the son of the late James Alson Holmes and Marietta Betts Holmes. He served honorably in the United States Army, 43rd Infantry Division in World War II of which he was extremely proud. He was a longtime member of Westover United Methodist Church, Millbrook Masonic Lodge #98 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Body and the Sudan Temple Shrine. Larry was an avid golfer, bowler and animal lover.

Larry is survived by his daughters, Pam Vitale and her husband Mario of Southlake, TX, Cindy Hobbs and her husband Keith of Garner; grandchildren, Michael Vitale, Katie Johnson, Kelly Purcell, Jennifer Hobbs and his sister, Edith Cook of Colfax.
