Obituary of Ann Fowler

Mrs. Ann Blanchard Fowler, 75, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully Friday, October 9, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Montlawn Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

A native of Harnett County, Ann was the daughter of the late Edward Carlyle Blanchard and Essie Bradley Blanchard. Ann was a graduate of the Rex Hospital School of Nursing and continued her career as a neonatal intensive care nurse at Rex Hospital with 40 years of service. She was an active volunteer with "Break Time", a service for memory impaired senior citizens.

For the past eight years, Ann worked as a greeter and receptionist at Montlawn Funeral Home where she was a much loved member of the Montlawn family. The love and compassion she brought to bereaved families during visitations, funerals and our annual Christmas luminary service will be greatly missed. Her fellow employees know we have a very special angel watching over us. Thank you, Ann, for all that you gave us.

Ann is survived by her daughters, Renee Souza and her husband Robert of the home, Alana Phipps and her husband Howard of Cary, Gina Hopkins and her husband Buddy of Clayton, Tanya Parrish and her husband Scott of Raleigh; grandchildren, Allen Souza, Ashley Souza, Austin Hopkins, Nolan Gene Hopkins and Gunnar Parrish; sister, Catherine Gilchrist and her brother, Roger Blanchard, both of Fuquay-Varina.

Ann was deeply loved by her family, especially her grandchildren, and always let them know just how special each one was to her.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Fowler and her grandson, Bryan Souza.
