IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann Marie
Plyler-Hilliard
September 8, 1949 – September 21, 2024
Ann Hilliard-Plyler, 75, of Holly Springs, NC, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 21, 2024. Ann was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.
Ann was born on September 8, 1949, in Binghamton, New York and is the daughter of Mike and Genevieve Roebuck. She had two brothers, the eldest Michael J. Roebuck and her younger brother, Brian E. Roebuck. The family re-located to Cary NC in early 1965 when Ann was just 15 years old when her father Mike was transferred with IBM.
Ann graduated from Cary High School in 1967 and immediately following graduation began training for her career in Cosmetology from Troutman's Beauty College. She loved being a cosmetologist and loved her clients. She had such a talent at making everyone feel even more beautiful than they felt before they walked in her salon. She was a color advisor for Matrix and obtained her doctorate with the Helix Academy specializing in cutting hair. Her clients became part of her family and she even would travel to their retirement homes making sure those clients that needed her could still have their hair done. She retired after over 50 years from her Cosmetology career in 2019.
Ann was married from 1969 – 1990 to Herbert L. Hilliard and they had two children, Susan and Timothy. She became "Nana" in 1990 when her only granddaughter Taylor was born and who became the light of Ann's life. She took the roll of Nana very seriously and made sure that Taylor was spoiled in the proper fashion.
In 2015, she married James Plyler in a beautiful ceremony in South Carolina. Since that time, Ann became the great grandmother to Eleanor, Conall and Rourke. Above all Ann loved her family and being a grandmother and great grandmother was one of her most treasured rolls. She loved her cats (Nikki, Willow and Thomas), the beach, loved to paint and spend time with her family. Ann was a very strong Christian who loved the Lord and she loved being involved in the church.
Ann is survived by her loving husband Jim, her daughter Susan and husband Butch, her son Tim and his wife Selin, her granddaughter Taylor and her husband Dustin, her great grandchildren Eleanor, Conall and Rourke, her brother Mike and his wife Sandra, her sister-in-law Lynn, her niece Meribeth and her husband Will, her nephew Matthew (Bud) and his wife Heidi, her great nephew Easton, her great niece Calli and many friends. She is predeceased by her parents Mike and Genny, and her younger brother Brian.
Those that knew Ann, will always have fond memories of what an incredibly special person she was. Ann had a beautiful soul, always saw the best in others and even in bad times never found harsh words towards another. She was a beautiful woman and always sparkled. She was one in a million and there was no one else like her. Her entire family was so blessed that she belonged to them. Her absence in this world will always be felt.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Montlawn Memorial Park Chapel, located at 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh NC.
