Obituary of Arthur Vernon

Arthur Edward Vernon, Sr., 88, of Raleigh, passed away Thursday morning, February 21, 2013 at Wake Medical Center.

A Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 1-2 at Montlawn Funeral Home prior to the service.

Born January 16, 1925 in Henderson, N.C., Arthur was the son of the late Ellis E. Vernon and Bessie Hock Vernon. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Phebe Stringfellow Vernon and a brother, John Ellis Vernon.

A veteran of WWII, Arthur was a chaplain's aide in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, and an active member in the North Raleigh Lion's Club.

Arthur is survived by his son, Arthur E. Vernon, Jr. and his wife Dianne and their children, Zachary, Sidney, and Grace; a daughter, Debbie LaPlaine and her husband Nathan, and their son, Will.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in memory of Arthur to the NC Lion's Camp Dogwood, P.O. Box 39, 7050 Camp Dogwood Drive, Sherrills Ford, NC 28657.
