Barbara Jean Ellington, 92, of Raleigh, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at WakeMed Cary, going home to be with the Lord.
She was born on September 3, 1933, in Wake County, North Carolina, to Robert and Eva Collins Ellington. She was lovingly raised by Macon and Vivian Jeffreys, who helped shape the caring and devoted woman she became.
Barbara was a woman of deep faith and unwavering devotion to her church. She was an active and dedicated member of Macedonia United Methodist Church in Cary for over 67 years. During that time, she faithfully taught 5th and 6th grade Sunday School, mentored and nurtured the lives of many children, served as chairman of her church circle, and participated wholeheartedly in church bazaars and bake sales.
She will be remembered as an avid reader, an excellent cook, and a selfless, kind, and sweet soul with a big heart. Barbara had a nurturing spirit and always put others before herself. She was a devoted caretaker to her parents and a second mother to her two sisters, as well as to many nieces and nephews whose lives she touched deeply. she was an avid ACC basketball fan as well as an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert Ellington and Jimmy Ellington.
Barbara is survived by her four sisters: Peggy Olive of Raleigh, NC; Vivian Adkins of Cary, NC; Diane Waters of Cary, NC; and Susie Brown and her husband, Bruce, of Fayetteville, NC; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Macedonia United Methodist Church in Cary, North Carolina. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will immediately follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Barbara’s life was a testament to faith, love, and service, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
