Obituary of Barbara Smith

Barbara "Bobbie" Brockwell Smith, 88 of Raleigh, passed away Sunday morning, October 25, 2015 at UNC Rex Healthcare.

Born October 26, 1926 in Jacksonville, FL, she was the daughter of the late James Raymond and Mary Estelle King Brockwell. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William "Bill" Burke Smith; son, Raymond B. Smith in 2006; and a sister, Nan Chandler.

Following high school she attended St. Mary's college, and then worked at Occidental Life Insurance Company. After her children were in school, she worked part time at the Emporium in North Hills. Bobbie's true love was staying at her condo at Southwinds Atlantic Beach, particularly when she was joined with her grandchildren who loved to surf. Her hobbies included knitting, gardening, and keeping her home beautifully decorated. Bobbie was devoted to her husband, being his sole caregiver and advocate in his later years.

Bobbie is survived by her daughters, Carolyn S. Wicker and husband Lee, Julie A. Smith and husband Tom; grandchildren, Brock Ridout and his wife Sarah, Matt Ridout and his wife Allyson; great-grandchildren, Jonah and Ava; and several nieces and nephews.
