Mr. Basil Stanley Ayers, 93, of Raleigh, NC joined "The Good Lord" on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Pruitt Health in Raleigh. The son of the late Ruffin Wherry Ayers and Lessie Matthews Ayers, he was born in Nashville, NC on April 4, 1925. He attended Nashville City Schools and North Carolina State University.
Basil was a WWII Veteran listed as Pvt. 1 st Class Basil S. Ayers, U.S. Army, 1 st Infantry Division, in 1944. He joined the 1 st Infantry Division, Motor Dept. in WWII as they were near the Rhine River moving from France into Belgium.
Basil was a loving husband, caring father, and community service giver. He was also a member of Inwood Baptist Church for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Joyner Ayers, who he was married to for 56 years, his two brothers, Joseph H. Ayers and Fred R. Ayers, and a sister, Angela D. Ayers Smith.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Ayers Dispennette and spouse Robert, a son, Randy Ayers and spouse Paula, two sisters, Mary Lou Ayers Corbett of Bailey, NC and Helen Ayers Wood of Nashville, NC, a grandchild, Angela Ayers Smithey and spouse Jason, two great grandchildren, Faith and Grant Smithey and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the Montlawn Funeral Home chapel in Raleigh. The family will receive friends Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
The Ayers family would like to thank the staff of Pruitt Health of Raleigh and Pruitt Health Hospice for their care, comfort and love shown to Basil and his family in their time of need.
