RALEIGH Benetta Ann Mixson Terry, 87, of Raleigh, passed away on August 23, 2021 in Springmoor Health Center.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 11:00am at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.

Benetta was born in Galveston, TX to B.I. Mixson and Marie Phillips Mixson on October 24, 1933.  She graduated from Rivers High School in Charleston, SC.  She married Charles Robert Terry on January 12, 1954 in Charleston, SC. Benetta was a charter member of her church, Hudson Memorial Presbyterian, where she was in charge of the church's very first nursery. Her deepest love was her family and spending time with them gave her much joy. Her family would gather in the kitchen every Sunday admiring Benetta as she prepared a large supper for them. Her family swears that her fried chicken is the best they will ever have in their life! She also enjoyed gardening, refurbishing antiques and creating flower arrangements. One of her greatest passions was her love of animals. Benetta cared for many animals in her life including pet dogs, sheep, goats, horses, raccoons, and the occasional wild deer. She was an animal lover without equal.

Benetta is survived by her husband Charles Robert Terry, her children Michael Terry and wife Donna, Robert Terry and wife Janice, Lisa Rahn and husband Phil, her sister Linda Stewart, grandchildren Megan Rahn, Matthew Rahn, Benjamin Rahn and wife Linda, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Donations may be given in Benetta's honor to the SPCA. The family gratefully acknowledges the caregivers of Stewart Health Center at Springmoor for the wonderful care given to Benetta over the last seven years.
