Mrs. Berniece Virginia Gunter Badders of Clayton, NC, passed peacefully into sleep August 22, 2018, at Pruitt Health-Raleigh.

Mrs. Badders was born in Randolph County, February 17, 1931 to the late Lillian Womble Gunter and Charlie S. Gunter .  Mrs. Badders was preceded in death by her husband, William David Badders, three sisters and two brothers. She retired from the News & Observer as a switchboard operator.

Mrs. Badders is survived by two daughters:  Nancy B. Gay of Zebulon, and Susan B. Cooper (Steve) of Raleigh;  two brothers, Charlie Gunter, Jr. and Laddie Gunter of Siler City; three grandchildren, Katrina G. Dooda (Stephen) of Durham, Joshua Cooper (Nikki) of Smithfield, Carey C. Dube (TJ) of South Carolina;  seven great- grandchildren, Henry and Eliot Dooda, Andrew, Mackenzie and Kaitlyn Cooper, and Sophia and Madilyn Dube.

Our mother has passed over to the other side and is finally at rest and has peace in her soul.  Berniece was a very strong-willed woman, opinionated, and didn't mind sharing those opinions with others.   She will be remembered for her "spunkiness" and her "my way or the highway" attitude.

Visitation with family will be from 12:30 – 2:00pm Saturday afternoon with graveside service to follow, Montlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Pruitt Health-Raleigh for their tender, compassionate and dignified care provided our mother during her final days, especially Joan and Teresa.  We also thank Pruitt-Hospice for their genuine care, compassion and guidance during this time, especially Michelle and Martha.
