On Sunday, July 28, 2019, Bert Beck of Raleigh passed away peacefully at the age of 87. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Bert was born on April 1, 1932 in Lexington, NC to the late Ellon and Belvin Beck. Bert attended East Carolina University and remained a loyal Pirate fan throughout his life. He served our country honorably with the US Army and then had a long career as an equipment salesman and general manager for CASE Power and Equipment, eventually opening his own company, Tiger Equipment.

He had a passion for golf and ECU football; though he rarely broke 90 and they rarely won. He enjoyed history as well as traveling the world, everywhere from China to Kenya. He spent countless hours working in the yard (and making his son do yard work). His greatest love was spending time with his family, whether it was on his own back porch barbecuing chicken or on the Nantahala River whitewater rafting, which he did at age 81. He may not have enjoyed driving his granddaughter back and forth to every single play practice, but he did it anyway. He dedicated his life to caring for his family, especially his wife, Shirley. He was known for his hard work, his kindness and compassion, and his dance moves.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley of Raleigh, daughter Ellon Hampton and her partner Larry, of Four Oaks, his son Dino Beck and wife Teresa of Fort Mill, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley Hutchinson and her husband Rich of Ayden, Jacob Hampton and wife Ashley of Garner, and Trevor and Braden Beck, both of Fort Mill, SC, as well as five great-grandchildren, William Hutchinson, Preston Hampton, Addison Grace Hutchinson, Landon Hampton, and baby girl Hampton arriving in November. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Bert was preceded in death by his father, Belvin, his mother, Ellon, and his brother, Belvin Jr.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, August 10th from 2pm to 3pm at Montlawn Funeral Home in Raleigh. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 3pm in the chapel at Montlawn.
