Mrs. Bertie Adams Murray, 83 of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on January 29, 2016 at Transitions Life Hospice. She was born on December 13, 1932 to James P. Adams and Maxine Thompson Adams.

Bertie married Joe Murray, Sr. in 1956 and was married forty-four years before his passing. Bertie loved church, gardening, family gatherings and doing hair. She was a cosmetologist for 45 years and was passionate about her profession. Bertie loved taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren. Her family was the pride of her life. Bertie was known for being a beautiful person inside and out.

Bertie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Murray, Sr. and her son, Joe Murray, Jr. She is survived by her son, Gary Murray (Stephanie); two daughters, Diane English (Gene) and Maxine Denise Murray (Kent); daughter-in-law, Cathy Murray; nine grandchildren, Joe Murray, III (Alex), Jeremy English (Lauren), Ashley Poole (Justin), Michael Murray (Liz), Taylor Murray, Jordan Murray, Brandon Murray, Adam Jackson and Madison Murray; three great grandchildren, Taylor Murray, Amera Murray, Savannah Wilkins.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Montlawn Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. A Service of Celebration will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Montlawn Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Transitions Life Care for the wonderful care and attention given to our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Transitions Life Care 250 Hospice Circle Raleigh, NC. Services are entrusted to Montlawn Funeral Home.
