Betty Jean Haley of Raleigh passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2019, just shy of her 85th birthday.

A native of Raleigh, Betty was the daughter of the late Juanita Brafford Parrish and Clifton Floyd Parrish, Sr. She was a graduate of Cary High School and later attended Peace College. After college Betty married and lived abroad before returning to Raleigh in 1968. Shortly thereafter, she began her career with the United States District Attorney's office where she remained until her retirement.

Never one to sit still, Betty filled her time volunteering with the Methodist Home for Children and was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Ephesus Baptist Church. Every October you could find her working the flower exhibit at the NC State Fair or taking a break to enjoy Al's french fries. Betty loved working in her yard and in her garden. She grew the most delicious tomatoes and enjoyed sharing them with others. She loved ALL things Wolfpack and was delighted when the men's basketball team won the NCAA tournament in 1983. Most of all, Betty loved spending time with family and friends... Thanksgiving was her favorite time of the the year. A seat at her table meant you were well loved AND well fed. She always cooked enough to feed an army which meant plenty of leftovers for everyone... including her faithful companion, Mia, a furry little Shih Tzu that captured Betty's heart.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Deborah J. Haley of Oak Island; her sister, Mary Joyce Parrish Steinbeck and brother-in-law, Frank Steinbeck, Jr. of Greenville, NC; her niece, Katrina Steinbeck Dixon, her husband, Wyatt, and their children, Parrish and Ford of Charlotte; her niece, LeAnne Steinbeck Sirk and her husband, Alan, of Apex; her cousin, Jimmy Goldston of Raleigh. She was predeceased by her brother, Clifton Floyd Parrish, Jr. The family is eternally grateful for Shirley "Charlie" Burch, Mike Longmire and Debbie Jarmin. These three souls brought so much joy and love to Betty's life and provided more than just companionship over the past year. Lastly, the family would like to recognize the entire staff at Jordan Oaks as well as the physical therapists and occupational therapists at Legacy. They welcomed Betty with open arms, open hearts and treated her as if she was their own.
