Betty Jean Ramsey Jamerson passed away peacefully on November 6, 2015. Born July 21, 1935, Betty Jean's was a life well lived, a testament to the truly important family, friends, love, and dreams.

On that July Sunday in 1935, Betty Jean was born into humble beginnings in Pamplin, VA. She shared a playpen and crib with her family friend and neighbor, Douglas Jamerson, the love of her life. The two were married on January 28, 1953, at 17 years old. The two have remained devoted to one another for the last 62 years.

Upon their marriage, Betty Jean and Douglas moved to Lynchburg, VA. Betty Jean worked to put Douglas through college, the first among a history of firsts for their families. She worked for Nationwide and GE, before transitioning to a stay-at-home mother for her three daughters.

Betty Jean and her family moved to Raleigh in 1967 where they have all remained. Her life stands as a testament to the truly important, the meaningful. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren fiercely. She was a fantastic cook, a tireless and selfless friend, and the life of every party.

A shining example of the American dream, Betty Jean devoted her life to her family. In the later years of Betty Jean's life, Alzheimer's crept in and slowly claimed her mind and eventually her body. Her heart was too much for the disease. It proved indomitable, unconquerable. Betty Jean's testimony: a living legacy of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, a legacy of love, selflessness, and quick smiles.

Betty Jean is survived by her loving husband Douglas Jamerson, her daughters Carolyn Guthrie (Bobby), Tricia Hadley (Scott), and Ann Mainor (Willie), her six grandchildren Bobbi Michelle Ingold, Meridith Foster, Benjamin Hadley, Brian Hadley, Jules Michael Mainor, Jamie Mainor, and her five great-grandchildren Toni and Traci Ingold, Madison and Mackenzie Foster, and Ava Hadley.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations in memory of Betty Jean to alz.org to advance Alzheimer's research or Amedisys Hospice of North Carolina.

The Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 2:00pm on the afternoon of Monday November 9th, 2015 at White Memorial Presbyterian Church at 1704 Oberlin Road in Raleigh, NC with visitation immediately following the service.
