Obituary of Betty Shaw
Betty Holland Shaw, 80, died on April 29, 2015. She was born on October 22, 1934 to the late Callie and Haston Holland. Betty lived her entire life in the Swift Creek Community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Mac" Shaw. Betty is survived by a loving and devoted sister, Margaret Holland Pruitt, nieces and nephews and their spouses, Nancy Jenkins (John), Herbert Holland (Carrie), Rande McAlexander (Pat), June Atkins (Donnie), Sloane Browning, as well as many great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters in law, Mary Alice Holland and Virginia Browning. Betty was the essence of a Southern Lady, and her gentle, loving spirit endeared her to a multitude of friends.
Betty began her career at Capital Life Insurance Company (later Durham Life) and worked there for 40 years. After retirement she began working at the NC State Fair and continued for 22 years until her death. She developed many treasured friendships with her State Fair Family.
She was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that Heaven provides. She was a charter member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she was very active and cherished by her Sunday school class members.
Betty was devoted to her family and was always involved in their lives. She made it easy to care for her during the last few weeks of illness. Her family and close friends have rallied together to ensure she had every possible comfort. Betty's grateful expressions of appreciation and many special memories will live on in our hearts forever.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 - 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015 and A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held 12:00 Noon at Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Betty to Macedonia Baptist Church, 7100 Holly Springs Road, Raleigh, NC 27606 or Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
