Obituary

On September 18, 2025, the world lost a kind and gentle soul. Bobby "Bob" Ballance was born
to Owen and Marion Ballance on August 2, 1944 in Raleigh, NC. Known for his steady presence
and kind smile, Bob touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be
remembered not only for the love he gave his family, but also for the quiet ways he cared for
those around him — the countless small acts that spoke louder than words.
Bob dedicated 45 years to a career in banking, where he was known for his integrity, diligence,
and the relationships he built with colleagues and customers alike. His professional life reflected
the same values he lived at home: sincerity, dependability, and care for others.
Beyond his work, Bob had a strong drive to volunteer. Beginning in the early 1970's as a
volunteer with a rescue squad, he gave generously of his time and energy to causes and
organizations that mattered to him, always believing that service to others was one of life's
greatest callings. His willingness to step in, lend a hand, and quietly make a difference left a
lasting mark on his community.

His greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Schildt Ballance,
and children: Celia Kottmer (Paul), John Ballance (Scott Hawkins), and Danise Peele (Dwight).
He was the proud grandfather of Zachary Kottmer, Brandon Kottmer, Samantha Kottmer
Whitley (Teddy), Joshua Kottmer, Oakleigh Peele and Brantley Peele, as well as the cherished
great-grandfather of Leon Kottmer and Tatum Whitley, all who brought him endless joy and
laughter.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving parents, Owen and Marion Ballance; infant grandson,
Kember Peele; and half-brother, Michael Culbreth.

Bob's legacy is not found in grand gestures, but in the countless everyday ways he made life
better for those he loved. His memory will live on in the stories told at the dinner table, the
lessons he passed down, and the love he gave so freely.

A private family celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later date.
