Obituary of Bobby Brock

Bobby Gene Brock was the youngest of the four children of the late George Adam and Lorene Lockamy Brock, born and raised on a general farm in the South River Community of Cumberland County. Bobby is survived by his wife, Linda Griffin Brock; daughter , Michelle and husband Robert Andersen of Clayton NC; daughter, Marlette and husband Thomas Truitt of Garner NC; son, Geoffrey Adam Brock and wife Brittney of Fuquay-Varina NC; Two Grandchildren, Crystal Andersen and Brandon Andersen. His surviving siblings are: brother, Thurman (and wife Agnes) Brock of New Bern NC; brother, Kirby Brock of Wade NC; sister, Nellie Brock Harrington of Fayetteville NC.

Bobby was active in his high school Beta Club and Future Farmers of America. He graduated from Central High School in 1959. He was a member of the Agriculture Honor Fraternity (Alpha Zeta) at NC State College and graduated in 1963 with honors.

Mr. Brock's career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture spanned over 45 years. During that time, he did soil conservation work in Harnett, Iredell, Lee, Wayne and Wake counties. During the last 24 years of his career, Bobby served statewide as Conservation Agronomist. He always worked to retain and improve on that which has shown to be effective. New ways were not always embraced as automatic betterments, but as opportunities to screen, utilize, embrace and implement technologies that will, as nearly possible, sustain the earth and all its inhabitants.

Bobby was also active in non-farm related associations and organizations such as Civitan Clubs. He was especially active in all aspects and regions of the Soil and Water Conservation Society and NC Land Use Congress. Bobby grew and sold greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers and also owned a pick-your-own strawberry farm. His early work and interest in "choose and cut" Christmas tree farming was among the early leaders in helping to develop childhood Christmas memories, working closely with the Eastern North Carolina Christmas Tree Growers' Association.

A favorite hobby was collecting and restoring older John Deere tractors.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm, Monday, July 27, 2015 at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.

A Private Graveside service will follow at a later date.
