Obituary

Bobby Womack Sr., 61, of Willow Springs, North Carolina departed this life on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at home surrounded by his loved ones.  Bobby was born in Trenton, NJ and raised in Hartford, CT.  Bobby graduated from Hartford Public High School and immediately joined the United States Armed Forces in 1976 where he served his country for 10-years as a Medical Technician. Upon retiring from the United States Military, Bobby lived a life as seen only through Bobby's eyes.

Bobby was very strong-minded, very strong-willed, very outspoken and very, very loud… HE WOULD BE HEARD. In all that, you knew when Bobby entered a room…because that's when the fun started. Bobby could make you laugh all night and would talk to you all day…Bobby was definitely the life of the party.

Although Bobby was a lot of fun to be around, his strong personality would be displayed when he felt he needed to defend what he believed in, what was right or what was fair.  Bobby has always stood up to opposition.  He didn't have any problems stepping in the way of unjust actions.  Bobby was employed by Wake County as a Safety Assistant.  Bobby's strong personality, his zeal and passion for helping the unjust led him to serving on many boards.  He was the Chair of the Armed Service Veterans Affairs for the Johnston County NAACP; Precinct Chair for the North Pleasant Grove; He was a Johnston County Democratic Party member (one of seven) of the North Carolina Democratic Party State Executive Committee.  He was Commander of the Veterans & Military Families Caucus of the Johnston County Democratic Party (first County chapter formed in NC of the new state group) and the Liaison for the NC Association of Education.  Lastly, he was a member of the African American Caucus of the Johnston County Democratic Party, as well as several organizations where he mentored for many years.   His service on the aforementioned boards was to be a voice for those who couldn't…Bobby was indeed a leader.  Bobby was a member of The Light Church of Clayton under the leadership of Pastor Jewel Lee and Lady Laneace Lee.

Bobby's Love for God was paramount; his life was Christ centered which rose above everything he did.  It didn't matter if Bobby was teaching, hearing, praying or singing the gospel, he would take pleasure in the moment. Bobby always loved to share his favorite scripture – Philippians 1:6. We appreciate and honor Bobby's fervor and love for the Lord, his service to our country, for being a leader in our communities and just for being BOBBY.

Bobby is survived by his loving, caring and devoted wife of seven years, Bonita Womack of Willow Springs, NC; his son, Bobby ( Neomarie) Womack II of CT; five brothers, Bret H. ( Beryl) Womack Jr. , James R. ( Olymphia) Womack Sr. , Billy L. ( Shari) Womack Sr. , Albert L. ( Denise) Womack , all of CT and Casanova C. ( Antoinette) Womack Sr. of NC.

Bobby also leaves to cherish his memory 3 brothers-in-law: Harrison ( Barbara) Williams of SC, Daniel ( Missie) Reed and Douglas Reed of NC; 8 sisters-in-law: Darlene ( Willie) Rogers of NJ, Sadie Williams and Daisy Hodge of SC, Laquisha ( Tracey) Julius , Shirlene Houston, Sylvia Reed, Terry Reed and Angela ( Kenneth) Kornegay all of NC.

Two granddaughters that he loved and cherished dearly: Lia Dezri Womack and Dalianna Torres of NC.  One godson, Kaleb Alston of Wake Forest, NC and six goddaughters.  Bobby also leaves a host of relatives and friends that he loved greatly.  His desire is that we cherish special memories and carry on his legacy.  Bobby also leaves his second baby…his dog Blue.

Bobby was predeceased by his father and mother: Bret H. Womack Sr . & Gracie Mae Womack of CT, a loving mother-in-law Catherine Butler of SC, and one ex-sister-in-law, Brenda L. Womack.

Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
