Obituary

RALEIGH

Bonnie Leigh Whyte, age 63, died on May 29, 2020.  Bonnie was born on April 9, 1957 to Cornelia Mims Whyte and William Whyte in Burlington, NC.

She grew up in Raleigh, NC and worked at Mitchell Funeral Home, her family's business, during her high school years at Needham Broughton High School.  She graduated in 1975 and began a 35+ year career on the Pediatrics floor at the old Rex Hospital location on St Mary's St.  She loved her time at Rex and was always grateful for the friends and relationships she made there.

Bonnie was an avid jewelry maker and gifted many with her hand-made pieces.  She loved her family above all and not only helped as a sitter for her many nieces and nephews, but also was responsible for 24-hour in-home care of her mother for many years.  In spite of her many responsibilities and illnesses, Bonnie maintained her lightness of heart and cheerful disposition.  Her spirit of putting the other person first was the guiding tenet of her life.  She was always willing to lend a hand or an ear to anyone who needed help.

Bonnie's spirited love for life and her family and friends will be remembered by all who knew her.  She is survived by her three siblings, Nora Whyte Cram of Raleigh, NC, William Harry Whyte of Raleigh, NC, and Sara Jane Whyte of Chapel Hill, NC; her nieces and nephews, William Park Cram, Carson Warren Cram, Meredith Mims Cram, Chelsey Allen Whyte, and Coleman Harry Whyte.

There will be a small family graveside service at Montlawn on Thursday, June 4 at 10:00am.
