The sunrise on February 10, 2024, was a little brighter as Gene "Honey," Dad, and Papaw
entered his heavenly home.

Carl "Gene" Edward Hensley will be watching down over his sweetheart of 65 years, Leolia Mae Hensley. He leaves behind a legacy in his three sons, David, Danny (Pam), and Dennis (Angela). Grandchildren, Brittany, Spencer (Bri), Justin, Logan, Sierra, and Micah. Also surviving is his sister, Barbara Jesse and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Hildred Mae and William Hurbert and brother and sister, Shirley and Larry.

Gene was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee and had the opportunity to travel across the world during his career. He will be remembered as an athlete, avid sports fan, coach, and mentor. Gene faithfully attended Fellowship Baptist Church with his family where he served as a Sunday
school teacher and usher.

The family will celebrate his life and legacy at Montlawn Funeral Home on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., the funeral service at 11 a.m., and interment will follow the service at Montlawn Memorial Park. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made
in his memory to Shriners Children's Hospital of Greenville, South Carolina, or Fellowship Baptist Church of Raleigh's Benevolence Fund.
