Obituary of Cecil Brake

Cecil Paul Brake, 87, of Cary, died Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Durham.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at White Plains United Methodist Church. Private Burial with Military Honors will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park.

A native of Clarksburg, WV, Cecil was retired as the advertising manager with Gravely Tractors. He was an active member of White Plains United Methodist Church and the Pathfinders Sunday School class. Cecil served his country during World War II with the United States Army in the European Theater and was held as a Prisoner of War until being liberated by Lt. General Patton's 3rd Army. Cecil was the past president of the Chapter #1 P.O.W Veterans Association and volunteered with the L.B.P.H. in Raleigh.

Cecil is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Helen Brake; daughters, Nancy Brake and William Engram, Martha Kidd and her husband Stephen, and Mary Brake, all of Cary; grandchildren, Amber Brake, Michael Bailey, Jasmine Whigham and Darryl Ross and one great granddaughter, Trinity Amber Ross.
