IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Channing
Stone
August 25, 1933 – May 14, 2023
Conrad Channing Stone (Channing) went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday night, May 14, 2023, at his home in Raleigh. Channing was born in Robeson County on August 25, 1933, to Berdis Russell and Letha Mae Stone. He grew up in St Pauls, NC. Channing attended Campbell
College, served in the US Army in Germany, and had a fifty-year career with The New York Life Insurance Company—loving those years and the many people he served and served with.
Channing had a passion for racquetball, enjoyed golf, kayaking and ran both the Marine Corp Marathon (Washington, DC) and the New York Marathon. He finished the New York race at age 66 despite having Bronchitis.
Channing was a charter member of Christ Baptist Church in Raleigh. He served his church in many capacities, helping establish the first Usher teams, serving as a Deacon for many years—eventually as Chairman. He loved serving the families at Christ Baptist. When asked to serve in any job he never gave an answer until he prayed and felt God was calling him to that task. He was a long-time member of Bible Study Fellowship and faithfully served on the Board of New Life Camp for nineteen years as well as New Life Ministries, a Raleigh based mission serving orphans in Ukraine.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Stephenson Stone, son Christopher Channing Stone and wife Michele of Raleigh, daughter Cynthia Stone Huffman and husband Danny of Wake Forest and his brother, Foy C. Stone of Orlando, Florida. He was predeceased by his sister, Sharon Stone McNeill. Channing was blessed with eight grandchildren, a great granddaughter and several nieces, a nephew and many great and great-great nephews and nieces.
A celebration of life service will be held at Christ Baptist Church, 400 Newton Road, Raleigh NC 27615 on Monday, May 22 at 11 am. Visitation will be at the church prior, beginning at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Baptist Church, 400 Newton Road, Raleigh, NC 27615 or New Life Ministries, PO Box 2096, Wake Forest, NC 27588.
