Obituary of Charles Baker

Charles Marion Baker Sr., 82 Raleigh departed this life on June 9, 2012. Charlie was born in Raleigh in 1929 to Ernest F. Baker Sr. and Alleen Prince.

In 1951 he moved to Washington, DC to begin his career as a Cartographer with the American Automobile Association. In 1989 he retired from AAA management after 38 years of service.

In retirement he split his time between a home on Virginia's Northern Neck and a winter haven in Myrtle Beach, SC. Recently, returning home, he bought a house in Louisburg, NC.

Charles cherished his role as a devoted husband and father. He married his childhood sweetheart Dorothy Jones in 1947 and they enjoyed 64 years of life and love.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers , Ernest F. Baker Jr. and Robert Jackson and his eldest daughter Beverly Van Tassell.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Charles M. Baker Jr. of Louisburg and Diane Baker of Illinois. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Charles (P-Nut) was quick with a smile and a joke. His life's joy was making new friends.

He was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and attended Smithland Baptist Church (VA), Faith Wesleyan (SC) and Grace Assembly in Wake Forest (NC).

Funeral services will be held 2 pm Saturday June 16, 2012 held at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 South Wilmington Street in Raleigh, NC. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30- 2:00 pm prior to the service.
