Obituary

Charles Ervin Jones Sr.
June 18, 1929 – January 7, 2026

Charles Ervin Jones Sr. passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026.

He spent his early years growing up in Raleigh, NC and attended Hugh Morson High School. A few years later he joined the Raleigh Police Dept. where he served for seven years. He began painting houses as a side job before eventually starting his own business in 1957 known as, Charles Jones Painting and Wallpapering. His business prospered because of quality workmanship and was passed on to his two sons, Charles Jr. and Doug Jones, before closing in 2017.

The one thing he loved the most was the beach! After purchasing a home in Atlantic Beach, his time in Raleigh became much shorter. He was the proud owner of Atlantic Mobile home park in Morehead City, NC for more than 25 years. He had always had a desire to retire in sunny Florida, so that's exactly what he did. He lived his latter years enjoying the warm weather in Punta Gorda, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Daphne P. Jones and a son, Richard V. Jones. His surviving children are Charlotte Hodges, Charles E. Jones Jr., Douglas E. Jones – wife Peggy, and Susan Maynard. Grandchildren are Julie Morris, Susie Crane, Richard Hodges, Rachael Davis, Courtney Alligood, Travis Maynard, Michelle Gillikin. Great Grandchildren are Amberly Speaks, Parker Alligood, Rhett Davis, Ayden Robbins, Maddie Morris, Logan Morris, Brittany Morris.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 12:00p.m. at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC.
