Obituary

Charles L Simmons, age 76, passed away December 30 th from complications resulting from a fall breaking his hip on Thanksgiving Day.  Charles, of New Brighton, PA, grew up on a farm. He joined the Army in 1966 and received the National Defense Service medal as a sharpshooter as well as a good conduct medal.  He married Nina Radcliff in 1972 and they were together for 47 years traveling extensively while in the service until settling in Raleigh in 2005. After leaving the army he worked in the banking industry but after retirement continued working at Northern Tool.  Nina, the love of his life died December 2, 2019 and he followed 28 days later. Charles loved being outside, enjoying gardening, feeding squirrels, working in his shed with his tools and spending time with his grandchildren whenever possible. He hand built a go cart for his grandsons that he modified and tinkered with for years.

Charles is predeceased  by his wife Nina Simmons, parents Oliver and Dorothy Simmons and sister Jeannie.  He is survived by his brother David Simmons, sisters Joanne Molina and Janet Skiba, step children, Cindy Mitchell (Ken), Connell Radcliff (Debbie), grandchildren, Matt Mitchell, Emily Trautman (Michael), Kendall Gemmill (Billy), Molly Mitchell, Corey Radcliff and Caroline Radcliff, great grandchildren, Hudson and Wyatt Trautman, nieces, Michelle Waterman, Leslie Alexander, Vickey Heberlein, Tracy Reed, and nephew John Skiba.

A service will be held January 4 th at noon at Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Montlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh NC.
