Obituary of Clarence Meyer

Clarence (Sam) Henry Meyer, 92, of Garner, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, May 06, 2014.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 6th, 1921 to the late Henry and Helen Meyer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita June Steege Meyer, and brothers, Henry Norman Meyer and Dr. Allen David Meyer.

A veteran of World War II, he served in Europe in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. Sam was a sculptor and professional artist. He had a Fine Arts Degree from DePaul University in Chicago, as well as studying at the Paris Sorbonne University in France. He taught at the Art Institute of Chicago where he still has pieces on permanent display.

Sam is survived by children, Anita "Bonnie" Vann (Jim), Daryl Cole (Kevin), Randy Meyer (Maria) and Robert Meyer (Cinda). He had five grandchildren, Bill Brooks, Brooke Listmann, Daniel Meyer, Samantha Meyer and Gillian Talley, and four great grandchildren, Ben Ceane, Nathan and Cali Listmann, and Charlie Brooks.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Highland Baptist Church.
