Obituary of Clyde Furman
Clyde Furman passed away peacefully on August 2, 2013 in Apex, NC. He was born on July 7, 1916 in Tunkhannock, PA to Edwin and Lillian Furman. He lived in Endwell, NY with his wife Vera until they moved to Cary, NC in 1965 when IBM expanded to Research Triangle Park. Clyde was a well-respected manager and retired in 1972 after 25 years of service with IBM. His IBM career included several company awards, but his most prized accomplishment was he never had to terminate an employee, as he was able to work with people to resolve problems. He had two children, Clyde L. Furman Jr. and Robert E. Furman, and along with his wife, were the love of his life.
Clyde and Vera moved to Clearwater, FL upon retirement and enjoyed traveling the world, visiting many countries, and taking several cruises. Clyde was an avid golfer and excellent bowler, recording four hole-in-ones and one perfect 300 game. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, taking them to multiple amusement parks, beaches, and attractions while visiting him in Florida.
In 2006 Clyde and Vera, who were married for 66 years, moved back to Cary to be closer to family. Clyde lived at Jordan Oaks in Cary until January of 2013 and then went to Rex Nursing Center of Apex. He was 97 years old.
Clyde is survived by his grandchildren: Terri Vecchiolla of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Marti Bowker of Cary and Tim (Tara) Furman of Cary; also great grandchildren, Alex, Jacob, and Nicholas Vecchiolla; Drew, Dane, and Demi Bowker, and Will and Caroline Furman; A very special daughter-in- law, Peg Berry, who was of tremendous assistance to Clyde over the past several years; and Sister, Dawn Caswell of Alaska and nephew, Ron Caswell of Florida.
Clyde was predeceased by his wife, Vera S. Furman and his two sons, Clyde L. Furman, Jr. and Robert E. Furman.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Rex Nursing Care Center in Apex, Hospice of Wake County, and Jordan Oaks in Cary for their love and care over the past months and years. The family will hold a private memorial on Saturday, August 10th.
