Connie died in the early morning hours of Wednesday September 20th, 2023 after battling cancer and other conditions for the past 18 months. Connie was born in Raleigh on June 26, 1954 to Edsel and Leilia Harris. After graduating from Cary High School in 1972, Connie attended Peace College where she graduated in 1974. After graduation she worked at N.C State University in the Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Science Department for 40 years helping undergraduate and graduate students in many ways as they pursued their degrees. In her spare time, Connie enjoyed for many years making stained glass items.

Connie was a member of Athens Drive Baptist Church in Raleigh for many years. She started attending Athens Drive Baptist when she was 8 years old. Connie was baptized and became a member at age 12. Some areas where she served the church include teaching a children's Sunday School class presenting children's sermons during the worship service, working in Vacation Bible School, she participated in lay-led revivals at other churches, she also went on mission trips to the state of Kentucky and the country of Honduras. Connie served as the Golden Agers chairperson for several years, organizing meals and entertainment for the Athens Drive Baptist senior aged members

Connie is survived by her husband Jeff, son Josh Hockaday (Elizabeth), daughter Janna Plummer (Joey), grandchildren Cohen Hockaday, Liam Hockaday, Sophia Hockaday, Paisley Plummer and Ellie Plummer,  two aunts, one uncle, and several cousins.

In lieu of flowers, people may contribute to the Athens Drive Baptist Church building fund.
