Obituary

Daniel I Amey, Jr. (84) passed away on March 12, 2026. Dan was born on

October 25, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA. He spent much of his early adult life

with his beautiful wife of 62 years raising his family in the Warminster, PA

area. He also resided in Hockessin, DE and from there moved to his last home

in Durham, NC.

Daniel earned his B.S.E.E. and a Master of Engineering in Engineering Science

from the Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A from Lehigh University.

He was an active member of the fraternity Theta Delta Chi while attending

Penn State.

He had a varied professional career with several companies. He was often

requested to function as an expert witness or as a consultant. Dan ended his

career as a Research Fellow with E.I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company and

was an IEEE Fellow. Dan was an accomplished engineer who authored

numerous publications and held many patents in the field of electronic

packaging.

He enjoyed so many hobbies that included the love of music, playing guitar,

and performing in the band The Roving Three. He often entertained his family

and friends with favorite fraternity songs. Later in life he used beloved sing-alongs

to motivate himself during his exercises. He enjoyed watching sports,

especially Penn State Football, Philadelphia Flyers Hockey, and watching the

Eagles (and singing the Fly Eagles Fly song). He loved photography and in his

younger years even had his own dark room. He particularly enjoyed capturing

images of mills, covered bridges, his travels, and family. His passion for travel

evolved from camping and canoeing trips with his family and later expanded to

more extensive international travel following his retirement. He was an active

member of the Delaware Valley Classic MG Car Club. After moving to North

Carolina, he continued his love of collecting MG cars and models. He was an

active member and President of the North Carolina MG Car Club. He also

volunteered at The Museum of Life and Science in Durham, NC, assisting with

experiments in The Lab, in the butterfly house, and during their annual holiday

event on the Santa train. He never outgrew his love of trains and would

welcome any adventure involving them. A brilliant man with an enduring love

of learning, Dan enjoyed reading about history, visiting historical sites and

museums, and keeping up with current events -often by watching the news for

hours at a time. He had an incredible sense of humor, and among his greatest

joys were moments spent laughing with family and lifelong friends.

Survived by his wife of 62 years Patricia (McNeal) Amey, his three daughters,

Diana Amey (Cyndi), Terri Herd (Todd) and Laura Harris (Craig), his

grandsons Kyle Herd (Catherine), Derrick Herd (Alexis), Jake Harris, Evan

Herd, and Luke Harris, his great grandchildren Matthew, Hayes, Emma, and

Myles, and his brother Robert Amey (Fran) and his extended family and close

friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Claramae (Rutan) Amey.
