Dashawn Dean Smith was born April 15th 1993, in Raleigh NC to Robert Lee Smith Jr and Connie Francis Smith. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Annie Louis Smith, his grandfather Otis Smith Sr, his Godmother Marie Grantham Snelling, his uncle Otis Smith, his father Robert Lee Smith Jr, his mother Connie Francis Davis, and his aunt Michelle Williams. Dashawn is survived by his two older sisters: Dashadina Bravo-Marion (Luke) of Wendell NC and Sashaselina Smith of Garner NC; Two nephews: Javian Bravo and Jeiden Bravo both of Wendell NC.
Dashawn was born at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh NC on April 15th 1993. He was a perfect baby boy. However by age 5 Dashawn's red blood cells had become sickles or crescent moons. This would sometimes cause a stroke, or in his case 2 strokes by the age of ten. He was treated with bi weekly blood transfusions and had to relearn how to read and write. Despite the hardships Dashawn was strong, he was a fighter, and he overcame any adversities that crossed his path. He graduated from Leesville Road High school in 2011. He worked hard to push through and lived a successful life in ND.
Dashawn was a avid anime fan, a skateboarder, he loved basketball, was a rapper, a deep thinker, a supportive friend, a son, and a brother, He spent his time trying new foods, tinkering with things, building skate decks, snitching on his sisters, and hanging out with his friends and his cousin Tim who he considered his brother. He loved to dance. Dashawn grew up to be kind, gentle, patient, and humble. He loved his family, loving his nephews and his younger cousins all while balancing what it meant to be a good person and a great man.
Always showing courage in his soul and with fire in his eyes, he touched the lives of everyone he met. Dashawns perseverance and determination led him to many adventures where he met many new friends that enriched his life. He will be missed by all his family and friends both old and new. His family rejoices in knowing that he is now at peace and no longer in pain. He is flying high with the angels because he has now gained his wings. He was born a prince but left as a king.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and their help with bringing him home. We would also like to send a big thank you to Dashawn's Watford City, ND family/friends who helped look out for him, watched over him, and who helped bring him home well.
