Obituary of Delores Gunter

Delores "Dede" Gunter, 56 of Cary, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Wake Medical Center.

Born February 7, 1958 in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Charlie McKinley Knight and Mildred Joyce Jones Knight.

Dede is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Benjamin W. Gunter; sons, Benjamin Malcolm Gunter, Kenneth William Gunter, and Reed Wilson Gunter; sisters, Diane Sobotta and husband Gerald (Kim), Marilyn K. Dotson, Debra Lewis and husband Gary, Desiree Olson and husband Kenny; brother, David Knight; and many nieces and nephews.

Dede graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She taught school for many years, in Sumter County, SC and Wake County School System. Dede was a purple loving mother who willingly gave her time and energy to the booster clubs, PTA and especially her family. Dede was a "Mom" to everyone and will be sorely missed. Most recently she spent several days a week volunteering at Jordan Oaks Independent Senior Living Community

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2014 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m., prior to the service.
