Obituary of Donald Overman

Donald Stewart Overman, 53, of Zebulon, died Thursday evening, February 17, 2011 at Rex Hospital.

Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 at Branch Chapel F.W.B. Church, Hwy 96 North, Selma, NC. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park with police honors.

The family will receive friends at Montlawn Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday, February 20, 2011.

A native of Carteret County, Don was born August 25, 1957, the son of the late Leon Shirley Overman and Kathleen Wiggs Overman. He was a graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College and after serving several years on the Morehead City Police Department Don moved to Raleigh and had a 30 year career with the Raleigh Police Department retiring as Captain/District Commander. Don was a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA., a professional course of study for law enforcement leaders.

Don is survived by his wife, Cheryl Southerland Overman of the home; son, Samuel S. Overman; daughters, Magen M. Overman, Caroline R. Overman and Kathleen Overman, all of Raleigh; step daughters, Danielle Alford and Cierra Alford; brother, Timothy Gray Overman of Morehead City; sisters, Kathy Pake of Bettie, NC and Jeannie Kelly of Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Raleigh Police Club, 3500 Leonard Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.
