Obituary of Doris Powell

Doris Banks Powell, 93, formerly of Bickett Blvd., died Friday afternoon in Morehead City.

Funeral Service will be held 11a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Hayes Barton Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Montlawn Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Monday and prior to service in the church parlor.

A native of Carteret County, Doris was born January 27, 1917, the daughter of the late John C. and Sarah Wiggins Bruton Banks. She was a longtime member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church and later in her life was a caregiver to many residents at Springmoor Retirement Community but her true calling was to be the best wife, mother and Christian woman she could be and she graciously accepted her station in life.

Doris is survived by her three sons, W. Baxter Powell, Sr. of Greenville, Jerome "Jerry" Powell of Cary and Jack O. Powell, Sr. of Raleigh. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Powell; daughter, Jeanine Bell; great granddaughter, Heather Bell; bothers and sisters, Geneva Mewborne, Rex Bruton, Ashton Bruton, Lillie Swinson and Tollie Shelton Davis.
