Obituary of Dorothy Spence

Dorothy Watson Spence, 85, of Raleigh, died Thursday morning, July 21, 2011 at the Phoenix Assisted Care in Cary

A Celebration of Her Life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will be in the Chapel of Memories Columbarium at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Sunday.

A native of Craven County, Dorothy was born September 14, 1925, the daughter of Marshall and Mittie Johnson Watson. She attended the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton and was a member of the Capital Deaf Seniors Club. Dorothy enjoyed fishing, embroidery and especially working crossword puzzles.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 61 years, Grady W. "Buster" Spence; daughters, Mary "Jeannie" Parris and her husband Marion of Wilson, Ruth S. Rambeaut and her husband Dale of Raleigh, Betty S. Kerns and her husband Gary of Fairmont; grandchildren, Sean A. Parris and his wife Mary-Claire of Raleigh, Jennifer A. Parris of Wilson, J. Bryan Rambeaut of Raleigh, Tiffany A. Rambeaut of Raleigh and a great granddaughter, Emily G. Parris of Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Hospice.
