Obituary of Dorothy Thornton

Dorothy Lee Eason Thornton, 92, of Raleigh, passed away Friday evening, November 9, 2012 at Wake Medical Center.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 - 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.

Born October 30, 1920 in Johnston County, NC, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Joseph James Eason and Ettie Lavara Eason. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Alonzo Thornton; sons, Eddie Ray and Sammie Clyde Thornton.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Sherwood A. Thornton and wife Charlotte of Raleigh; daughter, Brenda Kay Johnson and husband Stewart of Raleigh; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, Aunt, and friend. You would never hear her complain and she was always there when you needed her. Her favorite thing to do was to cook on Sundays and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Dorothy will be sorely missed by her friends and loved ones.
