Obituary of Edrick Smith

Edrick LaShon Smith, 29, died Sunday morning, August 16, 2009.

A viewing will be held at St. Matthew Baptist Church from 9 a.m. -11 a.m. Friday prior to the service.

Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Baptist Church, 5410 Louisburg Road, Raleigh, NC 27616. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

A native of Monroe County, Alabama, Edrick was the son of Eddie Lee and Lillian Owens Smith who survive him. Edrick was a 2002 graduate of North Carolina State University where he excelled as middle linebacker for the Wolfpack football team. He was a defensive coach with the Garner Senior High School football team and was a YMCA camp counselor and football coach with the University YMCA in Charlotte. Edrick was a claims manager with Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co.

In addition to his parents, Edrick is survived by his wife, Karisa Ursery Smith; son, Edrick Karis Smith; daughters, Alyssa Lynn Smith, all of Charlotte and Marika Gray of Tuscaloosa, AL; brothers, Greg Owens of Beatrice, AL, Eddie Smith of Tuscaloosa, AL, Torrence Smith of Garner; grandmother, Stella Mae Smith of Monroeville, AL and a host of aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, a fund is being established "In Memory of Edrick Smith" at First Citizens Bank, 14440 New Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC 27616 c/o Karisa Smith
