Obituary of Edward Craig

Edward Asa Craig, age 81, died in Raleigh, North Carolina on Sunday, January 18, 2015.

Mr. Craig is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty Craig, and sons William and Timothy, along with step-son, Mark Massing and grandson, Griffin Craig.

Born May 20, 1933 in Kittery, Maine, he grew up in Dover, New Hampshire where he met and married his first wife, Dorothea Bennett.

Ed Craig is a veteran of the Korean War. He served as a cook in the U.S. Navy and played trombone in the Navy Band. He is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and was in charge of food service operations for Philadelphia College of the Bible before opening Craig Caterers in Fairfax, Virginia. Later he moved to Fort Myers, Florida where he owned and operated The Gaslight Family Restaurant before finally settling in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Since 1992, his admitted joy was his dog tag engraving business at the Raleigh Flea Market. He leaves many friends and long-time customers who will miss his generosity and compassion.

A memorial service with Military Honors will be held Friday January 23, 2015 at 12pm in the chapel of Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
