Obituary of Edward Strickland

Edward Gleaton Strickland, 78, of Garner, passed away Sunday morning, August 5, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

A Funeral Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August, 9, 2012 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 - 3 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.

Born August 18, 1933 in Robeson County, NC, Edward was the son of the late Ossie Gleaton and Fannie Susan Collins Strickland. He graduated from North Carolina State with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and then went on to enjoy a long career with Progress Energy.

Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Carol W. Strickland of Garner; daughters, Gail S. Reaves and husband Kenny of Garner, Carol Ann Young and husband Charles of Raleigh, Mary S. Graden and husband Tim of Clayton; grandchildren, Tamara Young of Holly Springs, Blake Reaves of Garner, Kaitlyn Graden of Clayton; brother, Donald Strickland and wife Darlene of Baker, FL; sisters, Ernestine Byrd of Crestview, FL, Frances Owen of Lufkin, TX, Dorothy Sanchez of Hopewell, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in memory of Edward to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

The Strickland Family would like to give a special Thanks to Benny Adcock, Rod and Janice Wilkins, Jimmy and Deborah Leak, Corrine, Zack and Morgan Wall, Becky Johnson, LeAnne Davis, Aunt Darlene, Dr. James O'Rourke, Dr. Jeff Childers and the staff of Total Life Center for their support during Edwards' illness.
