Obituary of Elizabeth Jean Wood

Jean Thomas Wood

Jean Thomas Wood, 81, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2008 in Raleigh. She was born March 1, 1926 in Portsmouth, VA, daughter of the late Jesse Allen and Minerva Hopkins Thomas. She was a longtime member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church, the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) St. Clare chapter, where she served as Chair several times over her years of service. Jean was a past member of the Womans Club of Raleigh and a sister of the Class of 49C at VMI. Jean was a long time member and recent President of the Jane Addams Book Club. She was a loving supporter of her childrens activities such as scouting, band and Sunday school and spent 30 years as a member of the Band Moms Lunch Bunch. Jean spent many wonderful summers of retirement at Lake Gaston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Phinehas Earle Wood, Jr. and a sister, Wilma T. Taylor.

She is survived by her children, Thomas G. Chip Wood and his wife Sarah Wallace Wood of Clayton, Laura Jean Wood Klutz and husband Barry T. Klutz of Charlotte and John P. Wood and his wife Michelle R. Wood of Holly Springs; grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Wood and William Thomas Wood of Clayton and Peyton Phinehas Wood and Lindsey Clare Wood of Holly Springs; brothers, Jesse Allen Thomas, Jr. of Wallingford, PA and Robert Edward Thomas of Jacksonville, FL.

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Michaels Episcopal Church. Interment will be at St. Michaels following the service. The family will gather for a reception to greet friends and family at the church following the services.
