Emma Ward, 97, departed this life July 12, 2020 at Durham Hospital. She was born and raised in Eureka, North Carolina to the late Forest and Classie Exum. She lived and worked on a farm with her late brothers: Floyd, James "Buddy" , John, and Forest Jr. She has one surviving brother, Edison Exum of Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was described as a mother to them. They showed her great respect. She had only one sister, Alma Glover.

She was married to Lonnie Ward until his demise. To that union, there were eight children. Emma moved to New Jersey years later to be near her children: Alfred Exum of Irvington, New Jersey, Willard (deceased), Lonnie Jr. (deceased), Darius (deceased), Sandra Uzzell of Hillside, New Jersey, Carstella Johnson of Raleigh, North Carolina, Rachel Caine (Ben) of Durham, North Carolina and Patricia Ward Morton of Oxford, NC.

Emma moved back to North Carolina years later. She enjoyed church and attended often. Due to declining health she resided at the Health Care Rehabilitation facility, where she adjusted well. She never complained and always seemed happy.

She leaves to cherish her memories, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, most of family and friends who love and respect her.
