Obituary

Erich Alfred Barbour was born to the parents of Rev. J. Vernon Barbour and Effie Austin Barbour February 14, 1927. He was a Christian man and very passionate about leading children to Christ. He was a big supporter of the Child Evangelism and Fellowship known as Camp Good News in the mountains of NC. He was a Veteran of World War II. He spent a good portion of his life self employed in the construction business along with 32 years driving for Carolina Coach Company better known as "Trailways".

Erich is preceded in death by his older brother Thurman Rudolph Barbour in the 1950's, his father, Rev. J. Vernon Barbour in the 1980's, and his mother Effie Austin Barbour in 2014, who had reached the age of 106 years at the time of her death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Evelyn Matthews Barbour; daughters, Laverne Lois Barbour, Teresa Bunn Lawson (husband Steve), and Melissa Barbour Harmon; grandchildren, Brandie M. Robertson (husband Kyle), Kandie D. Spangler (husband Chad), Leslie L. Raynor (husband Shaun), Michael A. Jackson II, and Shelley A. Bunn; great-grandchildren, Tyler Hickman, Michelle Bunn and Shyheim Jewels, Jordan Spangler, Taylor Spangler, Madison Raynor and Chandler Raynor; siblings, Rudolph Barbour (deceased), Everett Barbour (wife Barbara), Irene Mooneyham, Clarence Barbour (wife Barbara), Louise Overby, Clifton Barbour (wife Patricia) and Linwood Barbour (wife Violet).

The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC 27603. A Funeral Service will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating is Dennis Bailey from Camp Good News, a Ministry of Child Evangelism in Fairview, NC. Burial will immediately follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
