Obituary of Eugene Lewis

Eugene Smith Lewis, 81, of Wilson, passed away at his home Saturday morning, January 9, 2010.

Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his loving wife, Estelle Vine Lewis; parents, Benjamin F. and Sibyl V. Lewis; brothers Leo Lee Lewis and Franklin P. Lewis.

Eugene is survived by his daughters, Karen L. Waddell and Julia L. Griffin; sons, Philip Vine of the U.K. and Kelvin E. Lewis and their spouses; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild;, brother, Horace R. Lewis of Falls Church, VA; sisters, Joan K. Lay of Wilson, NC, Claire L. Strickland of Franklin, VA, Sibyl L. Kupec of Wake Forest and their spouses.

After retiring from the US Air Force in 1974, Eugene resided in Kelford, NC for a few years before moving to Las Vegas, NV where he and Estelle lived happily close to their godchild, Jillian Masciola and her parents, Marie and Paul. A few years after Estelle passed away, he moved back to NC to be close to his family.

The Family will receive friends at 3531 Shadow Ridge Rd. Wilson, NC between the hours of 1:00pm and 4:00pm on Saturday, January 16, 2010.

Eugene and Estelle's cremated remains will be entered into rest at the State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC at a later date.
