IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Flora Geraldine
Daniels
September 11, 1933 – February 4, 2024
On February 4, 2024, Flora Thompson Daniels, 90, passed away at her home in Raleigh, NC, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Garner, NC, to Aldonia Ross Thompson and Eddie Arthur Thompson, Flora spent most of her life in Raleigh, NC, where she built her life and raised her family. Flora's life was characterized by her innate ability to care for others, a trait that defined her both personally and professionally. As a young, single mother, she juggled the responsibilities of work and family with grace, raising two children who were her world. Her career in hospitality, most notably at The Velvet Cloak in Raleigh, was marked by the same warmth and dedication she showed her family, earning her the affection and respect of all those she served. Flora extended her nurturing spirit to the many children she babysat in her home over the years, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives. Her photo albums were filled with Christmas cards, wedding invitations and birth announcements from the many children who were fortunate enough to have experienced her unconditional love and care when they were young. Flora's faith played a central role in her life. A dedicated member of Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church, she extended her love for children by assisting regularly in the nursery. She also managed the weekly flower chart assignment to ensure the sanctuary was properly adorned each week. Flora loved her church family and traveled from North Raleigh to Garner every Sunday that she could be there. In her final weeks, the support, love, and prayers of her church family was constant and meaningful. Flora found joy in the simplicity of nature—gardening, tending to her yard, or simply enjoying the beauty of a sunny day on her swing. Her family was the center of her universe, and she cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family, who were all dear to her. Flora is survived by her daughter, Wanda Tutor (Mike) of Lake Gaston, NC; her son, Gary Mattingly (Wanda) of Siler City NC; grandchildren, Michelle Tutor Pope (Robert) of Willow Spring, NC; Shannon Tutor Heath (Shawn) of Wake Forest, NC; and Joshua Mattingly (Beka) of Siler City NC. She is also survived by great-grandsons, Owen Heath, Aiden Heath, and Ben Mattingly, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, and a great-grandson, Ethan Michael Heath. Services honoring Flora Daniels will be held on Friday, February 9 at Montlawn Funeral Home in Raleigh. A visitation will begin at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 11am and a graveside service immediately after. To honor Flora's legacy of care and compassion, donations can be made in her name to Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church or Heartland Hospice of Wake County. Flora Thompson Daniels' story is one of enduring strength, love, and the impact one life can have on many. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
