Obituary of Frances Kerr
Frances Stephenson Kerr, 88, died Tuesday afternoon, March 3, 2009 at her home in Raleigh.
She was born in Johnston County on November 16, 1920 to the late Clarence Milton and Mary Ferrell Stephenson. After attending Flora McDonald College and Kings Business School, Mrs. Kerr worked for the Western Union Telegraph Company in Newport News, Virginia and Raleigh. She was cashier and then assistant manager-operations supervisor of the Raleigh office until retiring in 1974. She also served a term as secretary-treasurer of Local 10 of the Commercial Telegraphers Union. Following retirement, she worked as fiscal agency clerk in the trust department of First Citizens Bank until taking a second retirement in 1987.
Mrs. Kerr was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Fred W. Sherron, and a brother, Dalton.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Kenneth H. Kerr; a son, Felix Sherron Kerr and wife, Marti Pierce Kerr of Willow Spring; a grandson, Dustin Stephen Kerr of Raleigh; brother, M. L. Stephenson of Willow Spring; and two sisters, Josephine S. Taylor of Wilson, and Pauline S. Cantrell of Cary.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Friday at Montlawn Funeral Home chapel with the Reverend Dr. James Eller officiating. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive guests at Montlawn Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon prior to the service.
