IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frances S.
Layton
November 8, 1937 – October 24, 2022
Frances Savannah Layton Hall, age 84, passed away quietly in her home. A dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend to all, she leaves behind the portrait of an old fashion but modern women who lived an adventurous life in interesting times.
Frances, as she liked to be called, was born to Lillie Emily Harmon Hall and Carl Jackson Hall in Reidsville, NC. Both her parents were mill workers and relied on Fran early in life to look after her two younger brothers. She recalled enjoying being a mother and perhaps that is how she learned to be such a good caregiver to her three children. Fran was married to a military officer and traveled throughout the US and overseas often musing at the more than 20 moves she endured over as many years. She spent a great deal of time up north in New Jersey and around the New York metropolitan area. She worked her way up to manager of a prominent retail department store. Always fashionably dressed and driving her dream car, an Oldsmobile cutlass supreme, she made the art, dance and music scenes in style. After retiring she returned to her roots, living in Raleigh, NC where she tended to her magnificent yard and enjoyed her morning coffee while reading the Raleigh News and Observer and watching NASCAR on the weekends.
She is survived by her brother Richard Hall, and Sister-in-Law, Betty Jean Hall, widow of Fran's deceased brother Troy Jackson Hall, her children, Gary Horace Layton and Ava Patrice Layton; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Her late son Dwight Jackson Layton is also remembered.
A grave side service and burial will take place at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh NC.
