Obituary

Frances Barbour Williams, a rare beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on May 26, 2025, at the age of 91.  She was born on February 27, 1934, in Henderson, NC.  Frances dedicated her life to Jesus and sharing His love with others.  She was a charter member of Green Pines Baptist Church in Knightdale, NC, where she taught Sunday School for many years to
children and women. She attended services there until she was unable to do so, but  she continued to be a dedicated and loved part of the church family. Frances was a true nurturer, a very kind and sweet soul, and to know her was to love her.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend    She cherished spending time with her family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love, telling family stories on Sunday afternoons after church with a home-cooked meal, going on beach and mountain vacations, and having large family gatherings on holidays. Frances was especially fond of singing to the babies, teaching them Bible stories, and giving them the sweet nurturing they all loved and needed.

She touched the lives of many people with her generous spirit, her delicious cooking, her unwavering faith, her sparkling blue eyes, and her infectious laugh. Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Hayes and Vera Ihrie, her soul mate and first husband of 40 years, George
Barbour, Sr., her loving second husband, Jay Williams, and her grandson Shane Bush.

Surviving Frances are her children, Bonnie Barbour, Sandy Barbour, Rhonda Barbour, George Barbour, Jr (Tammy), and Lisa Barbour.  Frances also leaves behind her grandchildren Chris Barbour, David Barbour (Lizzie), James Wiesebron (Tamara), Jeannie Edwards (KG), Garrett Jackson, Sammy Jackson, and Anna Tarleton (Nixia). In addition, Frances was a loving great-grandmother to Jacob, Callie (their mother Katie
Hufland), Cole, Remy, and Arlo.  She is also survived by her sister, Irene Curry and her niece, Mary Margaret Callahan and several other nieces and nephews on the Barbour side of the family. Frances also had a very special place in her heart for Angus, Penny, and Snow, her three devoted "Grand dogs" who spent many hours in her lap while she gave them her love.  Frances will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who
loved her.

The family will be receiving visitors at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC at 11:00 on Thursday, May 29, with a memorial service at 1:00 and graveside service immediately following.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Frances's memory.  She will be forever in our hearts.
