Obituary of Franklin Avery
Franklin Delano Avery, 77, died Tuesday at Wake Med in Raleigh. He was a native of Johnston County
and was a retired train dispatcher with CSX after 38 years of service. Frank was a member of Bethesda
Baptist Church in Clayton. He was an avid lover of Bluegrass music for over 60 years, and was known
throughout Johnston County as a great banjo player.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Avery and sisters, Martha
Vaughan and Virginia Starling.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Faye Avery; daughter, Judie Brock and husband Jerry of Angier;
son Rick Avery and wife Lori of Tuscon, AZ; brother, R.A. Avery and wife Ruth of Selma; grandchildren,
Keri Byrd, Ashley Hales, Heather and Brandon Avery, John, Jeremy and Joe Brock; Great-grandchildren,
Summer, Noah, Gavin and Landon Avery, Remy, Zeke and Cam Brock, and Peyton and Avery Byrd.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday at Montlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at
Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 pm Thursday.
