Obituary of Garland Gooch
Garland Page Gooch, 88, of Raleigh, died Saturday morning, November 5, 2011 at Brighton Gardens of Raleigh.
Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. Sunday.
A native of Granville Co., Garland was born April 2, 1923, the son of Edgar and Elizabeth Mitchell Gooch. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, Garland joined Job P. Wyatt and transitioned to Wyatt-Quarles Seed Co. He spent over 40 years serving in numerous capacities such as sales and sales manager. After retirement, he continued serving on the Board of Directors for an additional 20 years. Garland was a member of the North Carolina Seedsman Association where he was elected President, Treasurer and Seedsman of the Year. He was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church.
Garland is survived by his wife, Gladys Johnson Gooch; son, Gary L. Gooch and his wife Ann; step-grandchildren, Alexandra Lindahl, Michael Mason, Stephen Mason; step-great granddaughter, Evelyn Lindahl; sister, Julia Gooch Vaughan and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Page Gooch; son, Garland Page Gooch, Jr.; brothers, Edgar, Jr., Donald, Joseph and his sisters, Sally, Lila and Mary.
The family would like to give special recognition to the staff's of Rex Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Apex, Duke Home Health and Hospice and Brighton Gardens of Raleigh for the compassionate care they provided to Garland during his stay.
