RALEIGH

George Gilbert Sutherland, 92, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully Wednesday July 14, 2021, with his family by his side.  George was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and at age three moved back to Raleigh, NC.   George graduated from Broughton High School then enlisted in the Army and served in the 155 Division at Fort Jackson South Carolina during the Korean War.  Upon returning to Raleigh, George attended business junior college and for a time owned a Soda Shop near St. Mary's Street.  Later on, George began working for the United State Postal Service in Raleigh and retired with 40 years of service.

George is preceded in death by his Wife of 46 years, Dixie Edwards Sutherland of Spring Hope, NC.

Surviving family is daughter, Mary Gina Darnell and husband Dean of Angier; son, Kyle Edwards Sutherland and wife Angela of Youngsville; 4 Grandchildren, whom he loved greatly. Garrett and Hope (Gina) and Casey and Katie (Kyle).  George enjoyed attending NC State Football games, watching any sport on TV and surf fishing at Atlantic Beach.

The family will have a private grave side service.
