Born on January 4, 1926 to Horace and Gladys (Kerr) Thacker, Georgette Lillian (Thacker) Wahl was born, raised and educated in New York, New York.   As a young woman, Georgette worked in New York City as an IBM key punch operator for an insurance company.

Georgette became a member of the Eastern Star of New York.  She was a member of the organization for over 75 years.  It was there that she met George Wahl, a member of the Masonic Order.

Georgette was a stay-at-home mom who raised two daughters, Barbara Jean and Judith Ann.  She was brought up in the Episcopal church, but she and George joined Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Mineola, NY, where they made their home.  She was a member of the Altar Guild and translated Scripture into Braille by hand using a wooden stylus.  After several years, she learned to use a special Braille typewriter.  Georgette also supported Nassau Lutheran School where Barbara and Judith attended.

Even after the girls were out of the house and on their own, Georgette continued to be an important part of their lives.  She helped raise two of her grandchildren, Stephen and Jennifer.  While Judith was in college she would write almost daily, keeping her informed about happenings in the family and community.

After moving to Spring Hill, FL, in 1982, they joined Holy Cross Lutheran Church.  In 2012 George and Georgette moved to the Raleigh, NC area.  Travel was an important part of George and Georgette's lives. Despite her fear of water, Georgette took many cruises with George and friends.  Some of the most memorable were to Alaska, Grand Cayman and the Panama Canal.  They also attended weddings and parties all across the country as well as conventions with the Lions.  An avid reader, Georgette's room was always filled with books. She could often be found sitting outside in the sun reading.  She especially enjoyed talking with her friends.  Despite her physical limitations, Georgette didn't complain about her lot in life. She maintained her sense of humor, and was always ready with a quick retort.  The chaplain described her as being "full of mischief"!Georgette knew the Lord and she knew that when the time came for her to leave this world, she would go to Heaven with Him.  She was tired and ready to go home.
She is preceded in death by George, her husband of 64 years, and her oldest daughter, Barbara Milek. She is survived by her youngest daughter, Judith (Bennie), Cleveland, OH, son-in-love, Al Milek, Fuquay-Varina, NC; four grandchildren: Stephen (Heather), Oak Creek, WI, Jennifer (Mike) Poole, San Antonio,TX, Abigail Jasper, Cleveland, OH, Jonathan (Ashley Duan) Jasper, Columbus, OH and four great grandsons: Alexander and Zachary Milek, Gary and Mason Poole, along with several cousins and many friends.
The family is very grateful to staff of Rex Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care they gave to Georgette along with their genuine concern for her.  Her roommate, Joan, was a special person in her life.
