Gilbert McLeod Slack of Raleigh died Thursday, January 18, 2018. He was born December 5, 1923 in Randolph County, NC son of the late Ernest S. and Margaret Carter Slack.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh with military honors. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Chapel of Memories in the Montlawn Mausoleum.
Mr. Slack graduated from Bath High School in Bath, NC in 1940. He attended N.C. State University from 1940 - 1942 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 - 1948 in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. He graduated from N.C. State School of Architecture and Design in 1953. He married Dorothy Jeffreys in June 1953 and she preceded him in death in 1985. He retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Colonel. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances S. Slack and a brother, Howard Carter Slack.
He is survived by a brother, James B. Slack and a sister, Carolyn S. Daughtrey, numerous nieces and nephews and the Jeffreys family.
